Independence Day (the 4th of July weekend) is one of the busiest times in Mackinaw and at Mackinaw Mill Creek Camping. You will want to book your site as far in advance as possible for the best site selection.
Independence Day at the Campground
Mackinaw Mill Creek Camping is a popular location to view the 4th of July fireworks from Mackinaw City, Mackinac Island, and St. Ignace (northern side of the bridge) simultaneously. With a superior view of Mackinac Island (the park is almost directly across the lake from the Grand Hotel), thousands of campers line the lakeshore for this festive tradition. Campers wanting the "up close" July 4 fireworks experience make the 2 mile drive into Mackinaw City. Expect the campground to be full, which is great for "people watching" and for the kids, who will have lots of opportunities to make summer friends. The lake is usually warm and the sandy beach is a popular spot.
Note: Campers seeking a solitary experience in nature may want to visit us before mid June or after the third week in August (excepting Labor Day Weekend).
