Event Date:
August 2nd, 2014
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Pointe aux Barques Lighthouse Heritage Festival. The festival will be held Saturday, August 2nd, from 11:00 am to 4:30 pm.
Entertainment will be provided by Lee Murdock and Annie and Rod Capps. Lee draws heavily on archives of authentic sailing songs collected in the early 20th century and housed at the University of Michigan. Annie and Rod have earned praise for both their songwriting and musicianship, with two albums topping the Folk-DJ charts and several Detroit Music Award nominations.
The Lighthouse tower will be open to climb throughout the Festival ($2.00 per person; you must be 4 feet tall to climb – no flip-flops, please). The Festival Cafe will be offering hamburgers, brats, hot dogs, ice cream, and roasted corn. Story teller Annette Goldkette will entertain, as will a group of Civil War re-enactors. The raffle prizes this year were created by Quilting-by-Janice based on designs by famed shipwreck explorer and maritime artist Robert McGreevy. First prize is a Queen-sized bedspread valued at $1,200. Second is a wall hanging and third is a table runner. The prizes are pictured below. Raffle tickets are $5.00 and are available by calling 989-428-3035. Credit cards are accepted. Subject to availability, tickets will also be available at the Festival.
A silent auction will be conducted the day of the Festival; bidding will close immediately before our traditional buffet dinner in the "big" tent. Refreshments will begin at 5:00 pm, followed by dinner at 6:00 pm, and our speaker at 7:00 pm. This year’s speaker is Robert McGreevy, who will tell us about the "Mystery of the Keystone State." Tickets are $30 and can be purchased by calling 989-428-3035.
