Music in Mackinaw - Northern Michigan Brass Band

Now in its 16th year of operation, this 27 piece, British-style ensemble is an all-volunteer band which had attracted adult brass players from across Northern Michigan from Alpena to Traverse City and north to Mackinaw City. Since the band was formed in 1999, they have presented more than 60 concerts in various venues throughout Northern Michigan.

The Shades of Blue Jazz Ensemble, a Mid-America Air Force Band, is a group of 18 professional enlisted musicians whose repertoire ranges from traditional big band jazz, to bebop and swing, to modern jazz. At one of their concerts, you are just as likely to hear the music of contemporary composers as you would the classic sounds of Count Basie or Glenn Miller.

Taiko is the dramatic and exciting Japanese art of ensemble drumming. With a repertoire ranging from traditional to modern, this group of up to seven, led by leaders who trained in Taiko drumming at Asano Daiko in Japan, have shared their passion by performing throughout Michigan since opening the Great Lakes Taiko Center in 2009.
